Chalton Street Elementary School teachers, including Margaret Sbordy and Lindsey Butkiewicz, did a “book tasting” for students. They created classrooms to look like a restaurant for the book-tasting.Teachers placed tablecloths and vases of flowers on the tables and included place settings at each student's seat. On top of each plate, there was a book. They also included extra books in the center of the table.
Students took a seat and "sampled" the book in front of them. A “menu” included a rating for the book, genre, title, and the opinion of students on specific items. The students were encouraged, excited, and motivated to become more active readers. This experience promoted high student engagement and an eagerness to read. What a fun experience!
